The big walk- TAFISA world walking day
SEP in collaboration with other Sports for Society Change Network Africa (SSCNA) Partners in Africa took part in the BIG WALK FOR PEACE.
During the TAFISA World Walking Day 24 Hours Around the Globe, we passed the baton for women Empowerment through Sports and other sexual Reproductive health issues. World walking day is celebrated across the globe by engaging in any physical activity being active in whatever way anyone chooses.
SEP is implementing this around the beach, Kendubay, with Muslim Community. The area is a hot spot, prone to very high teenage pregnancies with a big number of teenage mothers. The community here has challenges of early sexual debut among teenagers leading to early unplanned pregnancies, high rates of HIV/ AIDS infections and school dropouts due to all these. Hence the need for such sessions in the area.

SEP is used this opportunity to address issues around Women Empowerment, and delivering comprehensive service package.
After the big walk, @sep.kenya staff and volunteers had a session with the young girls and women, on the use of contraceptives like female and male condoms for their protection and family planning.

They were also taught how to conduct a HIV/AIDS self test as they were tested for the virus on the spot on a willing basis.

We are humbled to have taken the walk towards creating awareness on healthy choices and empowerment among the young women and girls in Homabay County.
